You don’t need Qualifications to be an entrepreneur
How happy was I when I found this gem of an article that just reinforces everything that I ever told my Children. If like me you have a child that is currently going through hell doing their (UK) GCSE’s then I urge you to show your child this article from Growth business or simply this paragraph below.
“The evaluation of education, meanwhile, produced some rather paradoxical results. Just over 50 per cent of those questioned stated that qualifications did not necessarily aid entrepreneurial success, yet 57 per cent were educated to at least degree level, 20 per cent possessed a vocational qualification and a further 20 per cent held an MBA.” Full article here Source Growth Business UK
How many of us working in the internet actually studied and passed exams that had any impact or relevance in what you are doing now?“I was terrible at exams (ok in actual lessons), always used to get incredibly nervious (cold sweats etc) , only got 4 GCSES first time around and to do a retake on 2 so I could get into sixth form, scraped by on the retakes and then quit college 3 weeks into it :0) as the lure of money had already had me in it’s filthy grip (was earning about £200 a week part time as a cocktail barman – yes I know I was only 16) The way I see it now is that exams aren’t the be all and end all of things and looking back at it I’m kicking myself that i got so worked up about them. Now I have two successful businesses, married to a wonderful women and am an incredibly happy person, what more could I of asked for” Adam Justhom.com
“Slight moral to the story, you never can tell what will happen, i did absolutely nothing for more than my final year probably longer than that and passed the lot of them (ok low grades but i still passed) and others i know actually were right swots, a few b’s a few c’s and couple of E’s and F’s. Personally i think being nice, listening and having manners is the best qualification in the world, you can get miles on that…” Matt Yabsley Pricethat.co.uk
“and believe me – having exam certificates does not equate to happiness, which is what most of us want for our kids – no matter how they end up living their lives – now that is success” Elaine Allkids.co.uk”
“I wasn’t allowed to stay on at school to do IT I was too thick, then failed my metalwork exam. Then left and become a sheet metal worker.. now a software engineer.” Andy Sears searskids.co.uk

All the above are successful affiliates or merchants within their own right, but just before any one does give up the day job or indeed any young ones looking in, the internet is a bit of an enigma, its changes daily. Whilst there is money in them their hills. You will need to have or employ some one who has, good analytical skills, so no escaping Maths. You have to be able to communicate so you will need to be fluent in your own language. But I think Andy Sears makes the point very well indeed.

I know this is the case but the education system has not caught up with that yet! I’m therefore being pragmatic. I’ve just started a pilot programme for those young people who are naturally enterprising / entreprenerial but have no niche within the current education system. Inorder to satisfy targets / points etc we’re doing qualifcations as an incidental to what they’re working on – making the qaulifications fit them rather than the other way round!
