Freedom of speech at any cost – A thought
How great to be able to join blogger or wordpress and be able to talk to the world in a matter of minutes. Relay news, gossip, and share common interests be they political, social or advertising. No longer are we confined to passive participation on subjects close to our hearts and minds. We can now comment on anything we chose, blogger and wordpress providing the perfect vehicle for us to step up on to our soap boxes and have a bit of a rant.
We all can be citizen journalists. We don’t need any qualifications, there is no one to censor us or argue against us (handy little button, delete this comment).
We can now wage war on our neighbours, abuse any one we feel like manipulate the truth. We can now merge facts with fiction and present it as “The truth”.
We can hurt people without leaving the comfort of our own homes, we can hurt companies by privately registering domain names and hide behind anonymity from the comfort of our own home.
We can rally support because the blogger is “an authority” And when we get caught with facilitating and fuelling nothing more then libellous comments, we can blog about being a victim, (handy little button, delete this comment).
Food for thought?

Hey Fraser
It’s a topic that has not been too far from my mind since the whole youtube incident.
If I look to the future I see the internet as something good and great but there is a darkside which if gone unchecked could potentially open up the gates to host of problems that will have consequences. Its the age old debate about censorship. With the internet laws being so vague and no one really to enforce them, how far is too far.
As I say, its just food for thought and what does the future hold?

Great post Jess and definitely food for thought.
It’s always been sad the way that the detachment of being online makes people treat others in a way that they would never do face to face.
