Sticks and Stones – yeah it does hurt
So I get a heads up from a mate, Jess you seen Nov RevenueToday, your in it…So I read the article by Spider. Aint it the easiest thing in the world to fire missiles on people whilst hiding behind a pseudo name, yeah that takes real guts. By the way that entire article is of really poor quality and slaps of self indulgent pontificating coming from some one that is evidently very insecure with their position in life, here’s another scoop for you which you may not want to write about, I know who one spider is, is there a nest?… some times in life, it’s not what you know but who and boy do I know a lot of people. Think about it, all those people you have attacked and you get exposed on my blog, now how would them apple’s grab you? Hmmm law suits, litigation, public humiliation and a career in tatters, now then… would I do this? Most people who know me will already know the answer to that.
Do you seriously think I would ignore A4uexpo or any other industry event? What part of the word “Independent” did you not understand? And no, I don’t do public speaking and the reason why… I am the first to put my hand up and say, I’m rubbish…seriously crap :0)
The AffiliateSummit UK was talking about the US and the UK, I know far less about the US then I do about the UK, why on earth would I want to talk about something Im still learning about re US aff marketing? Im not a US authority, which is why I have Mike Blumenkrantz in the US working for APA. Why am I going to talk to a bunch of UK and US folks about US aff marketing when Im still learning, where in the magna carter (or the American Constitution) of affiliate marketing does it say I have to know everything?
Thing is… spider you really did do your spinning well, one of my pet hates is people who hide behind pseudo names, problem I have with this is when I do go to events, I never know if the person Im buying a drink for is a person that has publicly shot me down in flames. It was suggested that it was some one from the affiliatesummit.com advisory board. In which case, I step down… I’d rather keep my distance thanks, all this has done is made me suspicious of every on it and I can’t work like that, it’s not healthy.
Maybe I should toughen up and shout about how wonderful and great I am, develop an ego and seek attention and pat myself on the back in public. Self spinning… I can’t do that, never could and I never will, I just do what I think Im good at, nothing more and nothing less. What you see is what you get and if you don’t like it, no one has a gun pointed at your head to say you have to accept it, so if you want to shoot me down, let it be for some thing a little more substantial then not wanting to do public speaking.
Here is the article … and if this is all you can criticise me for then it’s quite complimentary really. Bash away all you like and if this is the best you can do, then I must be doing something right.
Jess

Yep I’m not a fan of the anonymous attack either and was sorry to see those comments.
I was flicking through the recent issue, saw that article and I just put the magazine down and haven’t bothered with the rest of it. Including anonymous digs like this just cheapens the whole magazine which is a shame as a lot of the other content is well written and interesting.

It’s real trailer trash for sure which has no place in what is for the most part a half decent industry mag.
I read the whole article and I had a bit of giggle to think of “gossip” in our industry, its affiliate marketing for goodness sake. Yeah its a load of shite.

Agree Jess and Fraser – Magz

Sad & cheap in my opinion.
Sadly Jess you get this in all industries as you probably know, not just Affiliate Marketing. On the plus point, I am sure the majority of us would pay little, if any, attention to this tabloid dribble
The fact that the end of article signs off saying “Send me…a juicy helping of gossip. If you do, I’ll send you a Revenue T-shirt for your tidbit” says it all really.
Smacks of desperate tabloidism.
Anyway, on with life

Hi Jess,
Although you already know how I feel about anonymous people posting nasty comments or remarks, I once again want to step up and say how cheap and tacky it is. If you have a problem with someone or you don’t like what somebody says or does, at least be woman or man enough to say it personally and not hidden behind some nickname.
It would appear from the article that it is somebody that is somehow involved in Affiliate Summit as he / she is very defensive of these events, take as another example the attack on Steve Denton of LinkShare. Maybe if people decide they will not attend Affiliate Summit there is something that they don’t like or there is something missing in the concept? Instead of attacking these people it might have been an idea to talk to them and find out why they find Affiliate Summit not worthy?
Maybe this person is so insecure about him or herself that he / she does not dare to tell you in your face that he / she was disappointed or angry about you not speaking at the Affiliate Summit event? Nah, it is much easier and safer to do this from an anonymous environment.
I guess a lot of people will stand behind you on this and will indeed see this as some tabloid style article from a trailer trash reporter. I have checked the classifieds and noticed there is an opportunity in the Sun, maybe the Spider should apply?

Bah Hum Bug. It’s easy to create drama around something when all the facts are not known, heck how many events have I spoken at (two in 6 years) , does that mean amwso is boycotting events, hardly. But it would be easy to create an article around my total lack of participation in the US events. Come to think of it Kellie did do one, but it had the facts not the gossip. Perhaps it’s time for a hunt the spider contest
Anyway Jessie, take the high road, water off a duck’s back an’all that

Jess you did not take offence to that did you? As you say what is on that page amounts to a whole lotta nothing.
I can’t make affiliatesummit (vegas) so Ill be in the next issue ;0)

Could someone forward me a copy of the article. I signed up to a subscription at Affiliate Summit, but never received a copy nor was anything deducted from credit card. In Las Vegas they couldn’t give me an invoice or receipt & Miami .. nada.
Even without seeing the article I’ll have to agree with my peers comments above. Wasn’t the spider derogatory about the britsih before as I remember sending him an email.
Right where is that “We love Jess Plackard”?
Oh I dug up that old email to that xenophobic idiot, whom didn’t reply back.
“Warm salutations & fraternal greetings Spider,
One must admit, one was somewhat bemused by your article with reference to false allegations accusing a4expo London or UK affiliates smearing the forthcoming Affiliate Summit in London.
Perhaps, one should be prudent enough in establishing ones sources prior to making an irrational & derogatory judgement simply to facilitate column width within your publication. One can only perceive your alleged source, as a pitiful as they be, has an agenda for their own self purpose & interest in unison with amateur journalism which smacks with a sense of a self righteous xenophobe.
Perhaps, one could indulge in smiting the smiter, but us British maintain our dignity with pride & without prejudice, and with a stiff upper lip.
Having had the privilege of knowing some of the core founders behind a4expo, they are indeed of honourable character who if anything would feel the two separate events compliment each other in their own unique & distinct styles.
Therefore, one can only find your comments so laughable that ones spleen is wobbling.
On more serious note, one is quite proud London is hosting two such prestigious events, for which one is eagerly awaiting to attend both.

Take it with a pinch of salt Jess, the writer seems a right twerp, although I suspect he has set out to be controversial to hide his poor literary skills.

The people that don’t know you will surely have the brains to work out that the article is a load of crap.
If they don’t have the brains then their opinion doesn’t count anyway!

Saw this over on Moose’s blog, and I have to say, the guy sucks as a journalist. That’s the second lot of badly researched us vs them nonsense he’s spouted in under a year.
When I asked him about the first lot at Miami he just squirmed like a total coward (and he’s bigger than I am!).
He’s doing more harm to Revenue Magazine than good, at least on this side of the pond. I’ve said before, anonymous comments should just be ignored and any publication that allows it’s writers to behave like that should be taken with a pinch of salt throughout.

we all love ya. keep up the good work. Maybe take you over to US with me next trip if you are interested

Hi Jess, I know from personal experience name calling can hurt much deeper than sticks and stones ever could BUT you’ve gotta learn to bend like a bamboo shoot in the breeze grasshopper.
Keep on doing what you’re doing and if public speaking isn’t your forte at the moment Zen-wise you just need more practice.

Joe I know… you know me better then any one, Im working on my rambo skills and being able to deal with bad wind. Im not angry or upset about it any more but still surprised that a mag would print mistruths and as we can see from greavsie “the fact he thought steve denton was going to boston, when in fact it was steve avalone i.e.” Is a law suit, Poor Steve Denton, I suspect for Steve it was water off a ducks back. I promise to work on my quacking skills too.

Hi Jess,
Its really saddens me to read that BS article – ignore the spider – we did when they wrote absolute rubbish about a4uexpo and affiliate summit – two great events enough said.
Wrecks a decent publication, and for those that really get it, they know you rock!
One day we’ll have to trap the spider in their own web, that would be fun!

What is the spider’s enemy in nature? The bird. Why not write your own column as the affiliate marketing Brit bird.

Jeez – what a dipstick
Spider seems to be like a combo of the worst a4u protaganists on steroids.
Just ignore him Jess – we all know how much you know your stuff and where and (if) you choose to speak in public is entirely up to you. If public speaking is not your bag then that’s fine in my book. (Am I about to be singled out for the spiders sting now if he works out I spoke at Affiliate Summit UK but not at a4uexpo!!)

I think we are all agreed.. its not news and its not gossip and its not anything that really fits into affiliate marketing (take me out of the equation for a moment). Does it add value? Does it tell us anything that we need or want to know? How does this propel our industry forward?
To think spider and spiderlings would fire on their friends (oh yeah) and co workers and people who have supported them and helped them, suggests to me that they think they are untouchable, lost in their ego mania, believing in and spinning their own PR. The day you start attacking your friends, you want to hope to god that they will NEVER find out, all that for a T-shirt, a little bit of editing power?
Yes Chuck, there is no such thing as bad press and Im sure the folks at revenuetoday wont be sacking the incompetent and libellous idiot any time soon until one day when a rather large litigation document lands on their desk. Is revenuetoday so financially secure to withstand a few days in court, I doubt it. All good PR for them of course and I rather think they did better out of this then anyone, see if the idiots get exposed, its not revenuetoday that goes down.
Keith… Yup afraid so mate, you’ll have a whole feature to yourself!
Once again thanks for all the support and I think we ought to draw a line underneath it and as you all say… move on.

Seeing I had the lions share of your time at Affiliate Summit spending the very best part of just over half the day discussing stuff with you it is VERY cheap to say you didn’t guest speak.
If the spider wants to complain about that let him come and complain to me or about me, after all I dragged you away from everything else didn’t I!!!!!!

Jess
I stumbled upon this and will say that I only know you from reading your blog posts but can see you definitely have yourself quite a lot of friends here wanting to defend you.:)
As somebody who’s got as thin a skin as can be lol
, from what I’ve read from your posts….don’t go getting a thick skin cos think that would change the type of person you are.
I like reading your blog when I can cos I think it’s refreshing:) Your blog posts have been both educational to me and entertainnig. You’ve made me smile at times from what you’ve wriiten and your perspective on things. It doesn’t focus on the negative like some others. That’s not your style. That’s why I like reading your blog.:)
You know yourself and your friends know you:) Don’t pay attention to opinions of somebody who obviously doesn’t know you or your reasons for doing or not doing something. Your reasons are your own and unless he or she’s somehow able to get into your head….it’s just one anonymous opinion.
When ya get right down to things…doesn’t really matter, either. People who know you have their own opinions of you (and from what I can see, they’re quite positive) and others like myself are quite capable of forming their own, too.:)
So, I can tell ya how not to let it bother ya even tho if I were you it woulda bothered me too. lol
Nobody likes to have anything hurtful said about them but the alternative of developing a thick skin would change how you are. I like reading your blogs just the way you are.
Don’t pay attention to the article.:)

mental note made to turn to the spider’s page and proceed to rip it from Revenue magazine and toss it straight into the bin from now on.
What little respect I had for USA affiliate marketing in general was further eroded with the publication of that “article”.. name and shame the spider, they don’t deserve the luxury of an anonymous persona with over bias and a lack of objectivity like this article displays !
