My Views On Graphic Design
Why is Graphic Design so popular in today’s society? This is because it is everywhere you look, from advertisements on small things like cereal boxes, banners, to global corporate organizations and the internet. They all have one thing in common, and that is to stand out and be better than their competitors, so they are looking for ways to be more enticing to the consumer which will give them that extra edge.
I first learnt about graphic design at college where I was introduced to the likes of Macromedia Flash, which is now known as Adobe Flash and Adobe Photoshop. At first I didn’t have a very good understanding of how these programs worked. So I decided to look up tutorials on the Internet and researched books associated with graphic design. What I also found to be effective was experimenting with the different tools within both of these programs, which helped to enhance my knowledge.
I also tried using a few Image editing softwares before I knew that Adobe Photoshop was the one for me! This is such a unique software package, what more can I say, it is so addictive and is crying out to be used. This is mainly due to all the different effects that can be finely tuned giving you whatever your heart desires. There are a couple of Filter effects that I really like, which are Lighting and Liquify. Lighting can add depth and gives you the ability to position where you would like either one or multiple lights, highlighting with various effects including spotlight, floodlight or omni. buy Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey Liquify is another one of my favourites because you can push and pull the image as you see fit, and I feel it gives me more control as I can choose to manipulate certain areas if I so wish, whilst it will leave the rest of the image untouched.
But what I truly love about this graphic design package is that I can create something out of nothing and that really does appeal to me. It helps me to express my feelings and gives me a creative outlet in either animation or images.
On the other hand, I do enjoy using Flash and I believe this is mainly known as an animation package, but there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. The great thing about this program is the more you use it the more amazing it becomes, as it is such a powerful tool it can create fantastic animations, banners, web pages, buttons and even games. Crime Fiction divx Flash uses a scripting language called ActionScript, and this has become even more advanced over the years.
In conclusion, I believe that in the future software can only get better, as technology advances at an ever increasing rate more powerful and exciting programs will be produced which will exceed all expectations.

I use the software you have mentioned on a daily basis Jess, plus one other thats often overlooked – Illustrator – its great for the basis of vector work before you move into other packages. Like creating Logos to animate in Flash or mocking up layout ideas before committing to Quark.
The Apple route used to be the better route, but having spent 5 years working on traditional Linotype non wysiwyg equipment and then moved over to Apple for the next 15 years or so…I eventually ended up on a PC for all my graphics work and won’t be going back. The main reason being that I now have to buy my own equipment rather than slapping a huge I.T. budget via a board and spending someone elses money.
I run a few dual core machines with hefty lumps of Ram in and they do fine for me…..
