The prestigious A4U Awards, highly compared as the “Oscars” of the marketing world, comes to London at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London on the 9th June 2010.

The awards are like no other and it is such a prestigious occasion that it forms the benchmark for many in the industry for the year to come. This year is even more special. I have succeeded thanks to the community at Affiliates4U, in being submitted to the final selection for an award, to be presented that evening.

Being a Finalist is a huge honour and I would like to thank the many members in the community for nominating me. Formal voting for the final selection takes place from Monday 22nd March 2010 and I would urge you all to cast your vote.

Thanks to the many who listed me, I have been shortlisted as a finalist in one of the Publisher Choice categories for Affiliate Manager In-House Or At An Agency.

On behalf of Affiliate Program Advice, may I just say it is with humility and a touch of pride, that I now go into the final voting for this highly contested award.

is full to bursting with over 300 delegates cramming into a private bar for the evening.

As we are picking up part of the bar tab you can bet I shall be there until the official finish at 1.30 in the morning! I know it’s hard work keeping thirsty affiliates catered for but someone has got to do it.

These industry events are vitally important for our industry as it gives agencies, merchants and networks the opportunity to talk face to face with affiliates in a social context, rather than the more impersonal methods of email, newsletter or phone.

It is therefore no surprise this event is yet another Full House.

Affiliate Summit West #3

Affiliate Summit West 2009, starting on January 11 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, has sold out. So check your email inboxes and spam filters to check for confirmation you are attending.

Here we are on Friday 9th January 2009 and in just a few short hours I shall be flying from Gatwick Airport to Las Vegas for Affiliate Summit West 2009 and I am so looking forward to it.

I have had numerous invitations to meet with delegates whilst attending the Summit and I shall finalise my schedule when I arrive. With so much to see and do at Affiliate Summit West finding time to cover as much as possible is going to be a mammoth operation.

The keynote address at Affiliate Summit West 2009 from Gary Vaynerchuk, star of Wine Library TV and Director of Operations at Wine Library in Springfield, NJ, will be streamed live on Ustream.TV.

Affiliate Summit is running January 11-13, 2009 at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas. In addition to the keynote address, all other sessions will be recorded on video, too.

However, the breakout session videos will only be available to attendees with Gold and Platinum conference passes.

Sunday 11th January sees a full packaged day starting off with an event hosted by the kind people of the Christian Affiliate Marketing Association offering a non-denominational faith based Brunch (9am-11.45am). This event is absolutely a must for all affiliates involved in Fellowship opportunities and promoters of Christian affiliate programs.

The main part of the first day is a Meet Market The New Guy release taking place at the Pavilion from 12.00pm to 6.00pm and it is a great opportunity to network and chat to many of the exhibitors prior to the two main days.

On the Sunday too there are a number of Seminars taking place including a highly relevant session entitled Affiliate Marketing in 2009 (open to Gold and Platinum Members Only) and a very topical subject entitled Ethical Issues In Affiliate Marketing Sands of Iwo Jima trailer . I fully expect these Seminars to be very well attended.

So what shall I be doing on the Monday and Tuesday of Affiliate Summit West? Well I’ll be spending some time in the Bloghaus/Press Room as an accredited member of the Press catching up on some online activity and also interviewing some of the delegates. I shall also be cherry picking some of the many Sessions open during the two days. One of the truly interesting Sessions from the first day that has really caught my eye takes place in the afternoon on Monday 12th January and that is Organic SEO Site Review with Scott Polk. As I rely a lot on organic search I feel it is a must to attend this Session and learn a bit more about Search Engine Optimisation.

What makes it so difficult is that at the very same time is another important subject of profound interest to me and that is the Session on Affiliate Videos: Where Do They Work Best. Maybe I can arrange for a colleague to cover one of these Sessions for me.

Tuesday morning has a really useful Ask The Experts Session (Platinum holders only) and that I am definitely attending. There is another niche Session I want to personally cover during the morning and that’s How To Monetize Your Site With Widgets presented by Zahid Khan from Amazon.

Then after a brief luncheon courtesy of Affiliate Summit (us Press get well looked after) and time to catch up in the Bloghaus I am looking at a legal Session and one that has definitely caught my eye is an afternoon session entitled Make An Impact In Governmental Affairs hosted by Bennet Kelley of the Internet Law Centre and Wright Andrews of Butera & Andrews. With so much local legislation coming into effect in the USA such as the infamous New York Affiliate Tax I want to really see what affiliates and others can effectively do to influence legislation.

So an action packed Summit and who knows. Maybe I shall still have time to take in a live show.

The prestigious Interactive Marketing Advertising Awards 2008 was held in the comfortable environment of the Royal Lancaster Hotel in Lancaster Gate on the evening of the 30th October 2008.

I have just got back from the awards ceremony where I was a guest of Michael Nutley, Editor In Chief of New Media Age.

So without having had any sleep at all I thought I just had to tell everyone about how Chris Clarkson (wearing a kilt) and in total party mood, celebrated the night away with the team from Sunshine and AF.

Their award was for Best Use Of Affiliate Marketing. Thoroughly deserved and boy, do these guys know how to celebrate.

Nakama – An Amazing Night

I just wanted to thank Affiliate Window and all the sponsors of Nakama which took place last night at the Brewery in Chiswell Street, London for an amazing social dinner. I really like the business card holder engraved with my name. My kids will be spending the discount vouchers that were amongst the goodies.

The theme was Japanese and the attention to detail for the night was absolutely superb. It was very rewarding to meet some of the key affiliates in the industry, plus of course all the merchants who attended.

Nearly half of us managed to wander along to the After Party held at the Worship just off Worship Street where we continued to party on for another three hours.

As I had so much work to do the following day (the after party finishing around 3am) I had decided to get the first train home in the morning. However the very kind Bouncer minding the doors of the after party happened to live my way so I cadged a lift home and after a few hours sleep, started to go through all the correspondence that had accumulated whilst I was away.

These annual events are a really important part of business like all get togethers. Being able to discuss business in convivial surroundings and enjoy a thoroughly event packed night was certainly worth doing.

Affiliate Program Advice was very much in demand and I really enjoyed people (merchant, agency and affiliate) coming to find the “rebel” who says it how it is. My evening passed all too quickly given the amount of work I got through and the people I had conversations with.
