IAB Ramps Up Affiliate Council by Will Cooper
The Internet Advertising Bureau plans to muscle past the embryonic Affiliate Association to set itself up as the affiliate industry’s trade body. The IAB’s Affiliate Net work Council (ANC) was launched in March to represent the interests of IAB members in affiliate marketing, providing them with a think tank to offer advice and information. However, IAB membership manager Daniel Redfearn said that the ad body is now ready to set best practice guidelines for the industry, at a time when the mooted Affiliate Association appears to have lost its way.”The whole reason the ANC was set up was to create a two-way discussion between interested parties,”said Redfearn. “In the near future there may well be the opportunity 1 create a code of conduct for the industry, which would be a big step.”The news comes as Matt Wood founder of the A4U Forum community, said the process of establishing the Affiliate Association had slowed to a standstill over the summer “Nothing has progressed simply because it takes time for something like this to be set up,” he said.
Affilinet MD Nicky Iapino who attended the initial meeting regarding the formation of an industry association, said that she too had been frustrated with its lack of progress”Nothing has moved on. Which has been a disappointment,” she said
