Women in Affiliate Marketing
More women needed in affiliate marketing, why are there so few, its ideal for women with kids!
http://www.affiliateprogramadvice.com/blog/2007/01/uk-affiliate-cencus-2006.htmHi there! Just to introduce ourselves, we are Catherine Dunn and Joy Sweeney and we recently joined affiliateprogramadvice.com as affiliate managers. Catherine is currently working on the redsave.com affiliate program and Joy is working on the truffleshuffle.com program
Catherine says, before joining affiliateprogramadvice.com, I must confess I knew very little about the world of affiliate marketing. As I have experience of SEO, I knew broadly what it was all about but there were tons I didn’t know! I think it’s an excellent way of marketing on the net, very beneficial to the merchant as they only pay for results. And it plays on the way people use the net these days, you’re browsing one website and it links to another via a related product line so you just naturally follow the links. It’s a very organic way of marketing. Everything moves so fast on the net, I think it just makes sense to market online stores in this way.
I’m a work at home mum with two little ones under 5. I found working in a traditional office just too difficult, the long (and very expensive!) journey took up to 3.5 hours a day, plus I worked in an environment where everyone was expected to work long days regardless. After the children were born, it just didn’t suit me anymore to be away from home and my family for so long. I wanted to spend more time with my children and not be so far away when the inevitable domestic emergencies occurred! But at the same time I didn’t want to completely lose contact with the world of work. Spending all your time with babies and toddlers can sometimes have a bad effect on your IQ! I once caught myself cutting up my father’s lunch for him – needless to say he wasn’t impressed! Working from home was just the perfect solution for me. And working with Jess at APA is just great. Jess is brilliant; she happily shares her knowledge and is always really encouraging. Working with APA has just been a really positive experience for me. And a very stimulating one too! I’ve been using a broad selection of my skills and no day is ever boring! That’s what I really love, the lack of routine and every day being different! I’ve been on a hugely enjoyable educational curve ever since joining APA and I’m looking forward to getting to know all the affiliates out there!
Joy says I’m an American living in London for the last two years. I have a 10 month old daughter, and I hadn’t intended to go back to work for a while yet, but I was on www.mumsnet.com and saw the ad for the Affiliate Program Advice role and thought, that sounds interesting! Before coming to the UK I content managed an intranet site for Footlocker Inc in New York and Utrecht Art Supplies retail website. I first heard of affiliate marketing while working at Utrecht — we used Amazon.com’s affiliate program when it was just starting out!
We both really feel that affiliate marketing offers an ideal career choice for stay at home mums, because it really does offer the perfect solution to childcare problems. Whilst it’s certainly not an easy option, because you clearly have to put the work in to become successful as an affiliate, it’s so much more flexible than most careers. It’s hard to think of many jobs where you can build your business from home, but with affiliate marketing you really can. It’s a shame there aren’t more opportunities for working from home or outside the traditional office environment, after all it is the 21st century!
