Imagine a world without search engines
I was reading some manual about cake (not the edible variety) and at the end there was an article written by Marco Tabini. It caught my eye as it seemed quite a random rant about google. The more I read, the more I found myself nodding my head in agreement. The crux of the objections about google was its inability to inovate in technology, he used gmail by way of an example, its only difference between its competitors was storage space. Any technology that google have seems to have already been created and google are now in the position to buy other peoples technology. So does google not have any technology ideas of there own? Marco goes on to say, that the only reason why google is so popular and rather well off, is because of other people’s content, that if google had to pay for this content like every one else, they probably would not exist. So does this mean, if tomorrow we all blocked google spiders google would have nothing left? Ye huh, like that is so going to happen. But it just goes to show that whilst we think google has the fuel to almost control the world, this fuel could run out if we stop feeding it. Hey, google needs us probably more then we think we need them.
Googles success is really down to tapping into market that was in demand.
There is more to the internet then just google, internet space is infinite with possibilities, and I don’t think we are using even a fraction of that space. We are showing sheep like habits that can be broken and changed and used in a way that you can profit from, if you just stopped running on that search engine wheel for a minute. Now imagine a world without search engines, you don’t have try too hard, during the second world war “The Higgins Group” (ref Marco Tabini) became huge by supplying landing Crafts. They did not have search engines or the internet. They did something which every one of you should be doing, they tapped into a market where there was a demand. We can go further back into history and see a pattern of success stories that did not involve the internet. The clue I am sure is in being unique, supplying something to consumers that they are asking for and as yet has not been delivered.
There is no greater marketing then word of mouth. You need to create something that will get people talking. Link building is all very nice but even that has it’s limit and you are only doing cos google says that shows how important you are. Unless you are a professional spammer, got wads of cash, then dont try to compete with the big boys and girls, think outside of the bandwagon.
Imagine an online world without search engines, now here is the challenge, how would you get people to your website then?
