My Daily Success is
Taking up the challenge from Shawn Collins, I remember as a kid we used to start chain letters at primary school, the idea of which can be of course and is still being used to day, online and offline, referring a friend, or a customer from affiliates to a website, endorsements of a great idea, product or dare I mention, flame posts in forums to Youtube. Thanks Shawn it’s a great idea.
So let’s see how far this goes >>>Generally speaking I don’t clock watch. I do what needs to be done. I made a decision that if I wanted to work in this internet industry, I would have to work at the same pace. Now that I am more involved with the US, I have to be flexible. Going self employed, I knew it would be longer days and extra graft.
Hours
Early bird catches the worm, I love getting up early around 7am and having a head start before people start reaching their offices. That period of time allows me to wake up slowly and look at emails that have come in over night and prioritize the day a ahead. I work with outlook tasks and systematically go through them all until the last one is done. It’s not unheard of doing a 17 hour shift. But I have lots of breaks and Yourturn.com with a pal in the US is a good destraction.Communication
I think Im like most people, I will try to answer queries as and when they come in if I can, I hate keeping people waiting. I suppose treat others as you would have them treat you. There are two reasons why I believe I do this, the first is, if it’s a query from an affiliate, every minute that affiliate can’t get on with the job of promoting my clients is a) Potential loss of revenue b) The affiliate may forget my client and move on to my clients competitor. The second reason, a swift reply will some times be remembered by the recipient. As a side line, because I am genuinely interested in affiliates, clients and agencies, not just in terms of affiliate marketing, but as people with lives outside of the industry, it allows me to interact with them on a more non business like level, thus forging long term partnerships that can and do lead to long term friendships.
Procedures
I have to supervise in-house personnel and freelancers, as Im still quite new to this, I have to say that I am winning the battle. So problems if they arise, through use of having procedures in place can be overcome swiftly.I keep all communication (except spam) and archive and back up on a bi-monthly basis, so I always can go back to the past as and when maybe required.
I try to visit forums and blogs in my break times and try to keep up with current debates and I try to participate as much as possible.
Thinking ahead
Is always there, its not just about today or tomorrow but months if not years down the line. I try to be predictive and draw on the past and present in which to do so, this I can apply to clients businesses, our industry or internet trends.
Family
I am a mum, I love this job. I make time to tell my kids that they are the most important people in my life, I try to tell them this every day. I tease them relentlessly through the day and wind them up and they give as good as they get. My youngest son, Luke aged 16 is a chip off the old block and is a budding internet entrepreneur and is on the company pay roll. My eldest son, Alex is a musician and he too has a part to play in the dot.com world and is key for an up and coming joint family project involving music and technology. My kids are my driving force.I down tools once a week to go see my folks. Friends are important and whilst I don’t see enough of them, they count, and if Im not talking to them on the phone, I email them.
I guess daily success, is all about supporting each other, be it family, be it clients/Agencies, be it friends or affiliates.
