A blast from the past
Who remembers Boo.com
Fashion and cosmetics portal? Got hit by the dot.com crash in 2000
(in the style of Carol Anne Freeling) “They’re back”. Boo.com is now a travel portal tapping into the social networking frenzy.
“Ray Nolan, chief executive of WRI, said: “Travel is
about great experiences, and that should start with the planning and selection
process.
“We’ve taken the key components required to make the perfect choice
and put them together in one site. With Boo.com, we’ve really tried to tie the
best the web has to offer with a memorable and fun brand. There’s no site like
it.” Source Mad.co.uk

I rather like what they have done, you are able to interact with people who have been to the places around the world that you want to go to.But I have to ask myself the question how does this differ from LonelyPlanet or tripadvisor.com
The travel sector is saturated online and there is no shortage on information about the destinations people are heading to. So how are they different, what are they doing that is unique. They have had years in which to come up with a great new idea, I see they have used a branding agency, so we can assume they have money to throw away again. (cheap shot)New Boo, its all about getting the info from the horses mouth, rather then scroll through lots of reviews and posts, it’s one person that you can speak to. But social networking is not new, neither are travel reviews.
Well I guess it’s a good use of all those email addresses they aquired in the boo m days
Jury is out on this one.
