17 year old Kid hacks Apple Iphone

Posted by admin
August 25, 2007

This tickled me today…“The Associated Press news agency confirmed George Hotz, 17, had unlocked the iPhone and used it on T-Mobile, a rival to its sole US operator, AT&T.”

“The hacker says the unlocking takes about two hours and involves some soldering and skill with software.”

“Analysts believe Apple may still have time to modify the iPhone production line to make new phones invulnerable to the hacks before the iPhone’s expected European launch later this year.”
Source BBC, read the full article here

Lol, yeah rrrrrrright!
Not with the likes of George Hotz about, whom Im sure now has a very bright future ahead of him.
I feel like saying well done!

Never did understand these kids. Good, go hack your $600 phone to use on a network that doesn’t support the ATT selective voicemail service (which is very cool), email and the edge network, etc …okay thats worth it just to use on your T-mobile account.

Now go hack a T-mobile phone to be like an iPhone, that I’d like to see….

Ahhh your just jealous cos you couldn’t do it :0P

Seriously, I think this kid deserves some respect, the point I feel, lies in the fact that
a) he is 17
b) he was able to do what a lot of others have been trying to do and could not do
c) it shows up the vulnerabilities of the phone.

Jess you can stop trying to be a geek now, you are one (and a very cute one too) and this proves it! Only a geek could appreciate something like this. You do know that hackers are dangerous people and really should not be encouraged and I have to agree with Chuck Couch. My site was hacked into and it caused so much damage and I lost a lot of money not to mention time. Why can’t these kids go and do something constructive with their, dare I say, skills?
Having said that, I can see that hackers are useful for testing out the security on websites and you are right, this kid has probably been head hunted by Apple themselves, I know I would.
See you at a4uexpo

I was watching the news last night about the shooting of that young boy, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/6964380.stm and the teens that are involved in the shooting. Why could the shooter not have been like George Hotz?
I cant help but think that Id rather George Hotz did what he did rather then go out and shoot some one. Yes its destructive, yes it’s illegal but it harmed no one other then Apple’s pride. Nothing is hacker proof, that’s the point!

If I were Apple, I too, like you would be on the iphone (lol) calling this guy right now and asking him to come on down and help make the phone more secure. I do respect this guy, he is our potential future in terms of technology, some day you maybe using a gadget that he designed that improves your life. I think this guy is creative and a problem solver and it still makes me smile.

Chuck, “Now go hack a T-mobile phone to be like an iPhone, that I’d like to see…. “ now this Id like to see too and fair point.
Simian, yeah she’s a geek alright! Drinks like one too! (Singing in the rain Jess?)
There are back doors to everything, as Jess says nothing is one hundred percent. If you ask me the phone does nothing that my other machines cant already do so Im not hyped up about the phone. I think this kid and all the others out there are smart and Jess is right, Id rather they did this kind of stuff rather then beating little old women over the head.

Oh cringe… Darren, I was happy thats why I was singing and for no other reason! I also happen to like Gene Kelly and lamp posts!

I think Id really like the iphone but I would lose it and Id never learn how to use it properly, real geeks would have it all figured out before it even came out of the box, I think geeks have xray vision.

Yes “Id rather they did this kind of stuff rather then beating little old women over the head.”

No Jess, they have something called an instruction manual, not xray vision! :0)
Ummmm so the eight shots of tequila had no influence over the spontaneous song and dance routine we all witnessed? Admittedly, my rendition of cabaret was alcohol induced and I still carry the psychological scars not to mention the bill for a new mobile phone that had to be bought after asking a total stranger to look after it! Have a good bank holiday, fruit loop ;0)
