SAN FRANCISCO, March 18 (Reuters) – A parental advice Internet site has sued Google Inc., charging it unfairly deprived the company of customers by downgrading its search-result ranking without reason or warning.

Unfortunately for Kinderstart, they don’t really have a leg to stand on simply because being listed in the organic search engine listings is a free service. As one a4uforum.co.uk poster states, if the judge is in favour of Kinderstart, this could open the flood gates for literally thousands of businesses to go after the Search Engine giant.
It could how ever be argued, does google have a responsibility to inform businesses, webmasters and alike about why their websites have fallen in rankings and what steps could be done to improve their listings. But, there seems to be no rhyme or reason why one site ranks above another. The google guidelines are vague, you cant talk to a google rep as there are no phone numbers. The Goal post keeps shifting and the rumours of what you should be doing keep changing. Seeing the wood from the trees is every webmasters Google challenge. By Google being tight lipped up until now has protected this company and allowed them to create a mystique about how to get listed in their search engine. But could their mysticism finally be their undoing?
