Great Little Trading Company & Brian Cant
Have you been to the The Great Little Trading Company’s web site lately? If you have then you will know that one of my childhood heroes Brian Cant offers parents and children free stories for both parents, carers and kids to listen to I urge you to listen to one of the stories and immediately you will understand why I think Brian Cant is just genius. He has one of those voices that all kids and adults just fall in love with. His reassuring tone and gift for story telling just makes the troubles of the day melt away. I defy anyone that says his stories are for kids only. I listened to them all and then I was transported back to my child hood when I first saw Brian Cant on television with an educational programme for kids called Play School, which began in 1964 via BBC1.
“here is a house, here is a door..windows, one, two, three, four. Which window shall we look through today? ( the suspense) The round window”. Remember Humpty? Jemima? Little Ted? Here is a picture of a very young and rather nice looking Brian Cant Then there came the Saturday follow up with a programme called Play-A-Way, Hosted by, yes you guessed it Brian Cant! Remember Derek Griffiths and Johhny Ball?
What Brian Cant has done for kids over the years should be applauded and recognised, through story telling and learning through play, children did and still do learn and he and his colleagues really did put the fun back in to education in the late 60’s & early 70’s.
Mr Cant, some day Id like to shake your hand, you have my utmost respect and fond child hood memories, seems like yesterday.
