Fashion is as individual as you are.
One of the things I love most about our daughter who is rising thirteen is her developing fashion sense.
She is conscious about what her peers are wearing and her favorite store is Hot topic, a store catering for the “Emos” “Goths” “Punk” “Rock” and truly the store facilitates the growing demand for music inspired fashion.
But Just the other day, I was pleasantly surprised to see her following her own fashion ideas and pulled together an outfit that was so utterly chaotic in color, patterns and style. Who says luminous green stripey top and blue/red paisley skirt does not match, nor where does it say that wearing black sheer tights with glow in the dark green spider webs and matching spiders would not work. All was supported by patent black Dr Martin shoes. She wore her cacophony of color and patterns with confidenc and she knew she looked great! I thought of Vivian Westwood and her sometimes eccentric fashion and I saw something in our daughter that few girls at her age seldom do for fear of standing out in a crowd or being ridiculed or judged by their peers, she had discovered her sense of “self image” and how she wanted the world to see her that day.
I felt compelled to write this post as a reminder to the dedicated followers of fashion to break away from “the trends” once in a while and explore wearing clothing that defines your uniqueness, step away from the crowd and become a pioneer in creating new fashion trends. If our twelve year old can do it so can we all!
